About this
page
There are thousands of organisations concerned with
people who have learning difficulties. Many of them share at
least some of our beliefs and aims. But we want these pages to be
a link between people and groups around the world who are -- working mainly, if not entirely, as advocacy
(campaigning) organisations, rather than providing direct health
or social care services
- working closely with, or led by,
people who have learning difficulties
- have an absolute,
uncompromising commitment to the right and capacity of every
person with learning difficulties to be included in ordinary
communities, using ordinary facilities and services (housing,
schooling, health, leisure, etc).
Some of these groups are,
like VIA, concerned with people with learning difficulties as a
whole, and the wide range of issues which affect them. Other may
be focussed on one group, eg children with special needs, or on
particular issues, such as mainstream education, sexual rights, or
community inclusion.
